Public Use
Public use
It means the activities, services and facilities which, independently of whoever, manages the nature Reserve and brings natural and cultural values closer to the tourist. This is done through education, information and explanation of the environment.
Interpretation centre
The Interpretation Center was opened on the 21st of March 1994. The premises area is 125m2 which can accommodate up to 20 people. It is situated outside the Reserve, in the annexes of the Riu Palace Hotel. There is an exhibition and audio-visual room. It is open from Monday to Saturday during the morning and afternoon. It received 8,000 visitors in 2003.
Guided tours
The guided tours with an expert guide are a good supplement to the Interpretation Centre, and the best way to get to know the dunes. The guided tours start in the Interpretation Centre with an explanation and a screening of a Reserve documentary. After this, the tour starts, the route depends on the time and the general fitness of the tourists. The guided tour ends in the Tony Gallardo Park. If you wish to book a guided tour, please contact our guides. Phone: 630-074-559.
The paths
There are five marked paths inside the Reserve, which lead you to the most interesting places of the Reserve. If you wish to locate them, please look at the public use map. You should walk along the marked path, you are not allowed to walk anywhere else.
Tony Gallardo Park
This place was the idea of Tony Gallardo, a famous sculptor. It simulates the different habitats of the Reserve with closed-circuit water; its size is 2000m2. Here you can find information about the flora and fauna of the Reserve. With this facility you can enjoy the Reserve in a controlled area. There is a Café and information about the natural values of this Special Nature Reserve.
Beach services
The Reserve borders on the south with Maspalomas beach, and to the east with Playa del Inglés. The services and facilities must be adapted to the Reserve to benefit the environment. E.g.: The beach stands are moved periodically, so the wind and sand can go through, so that dune formation is only affected slightly. Also there are sport competitions on these beaches, which also affect the Reserve.
Car Park
The Reserve is flanked by two big car parks: Shopping Center Anexo II, it is situated at the far end of El Veril, and serves users in Playa del Inglés. It consists of a large parking area and promenade, which has cafés and pubs with terraces and shops. It is built parallel to the shore.
In the Oasis area there is a car park which can accommodate up to 1500 cars; it is very comfortable if you go to Maspalomas beach. It is situated to the west of the Reserve and is ideal for visitors staying in Maspalomas.
Viewing points
Close to La Charca and in front of the Interpretation Center there are two viewpoints, where you can enjoy the landscape. There is an avenue, La Cornisa, between the developed area of Playa del Inglés and the Reserve acting like a border. It is a good supplement to the viewpoints.
Birds' Day
Ten years ago we started to celebrate this day with SEO/BIRDLIFE in the Reserve. This enables us to get closer to the public and also sends a preservation message and teaches how to better enjoy our natural resources
Photography and filming
This place is used for films, advertisements, music videos and fashion pictures, etc due to the good weather, beauty, landscape and quality accommodation of the Reserve and beaches nearby. During 2003 thirty seven recordings were allowed.
