Marlins

The word marlin refers to different species with the common characteristic of an upper jaw ending in a long snout. These species are found in Canary Island waters, especially from May to November.

Blue marlin: Gran Canaria is one of the places where the largest of these species can be caught. Individuals weighing over 1,100 pounds (500 kg) have been caught.

White marlin: Present in Gran Canaria throughout the summer.

Atlantic spearfish: The Island holds the absolute world record for this marlin species.

Swordfish: The usual size of the species in island waters is 7 and a half feet (2.5 m).
