The Sun refuses to leave!!!

It’s been confirmed! The Sun plans to stay in Gran Canaria for a long, long season.

“Why should I leave Gran Canaria?”, he declared. “I have everything on this island. So I’m staying. I love the beach and the food, and there are lots of things to do. Besides, everyone already knows me at the hotel, and they are all extremely nice to me… why should I leave now? Not a chance! You can count me out! I’m staying in Gran Canaria!”

His wife pleads in public before the media

The Sun’s wife told the press that he chooses not to answer his mobile phone, spending endless hours on the beach and flatly refusing to leave Gran Canaria.

“When will he decide to leave the island?”, asked the Sun’s wife before the media today. "Why does he spend nearly twelve months a year in Gran Canaria? There he is, stubborn as he is, year after year, in October, November, December, January... I never see him anymore. To top it off, he says he has now taken up surfing. Surfing! Can you believe this? At his age! Whoever gave him such an idea?”

Islanders protest

They claim they miss a regular winter, such as that enjoyed in the rest of Europe, and say they have had enough with the fine weather in Gran Canaria, year after year after year.

In the words of Manuel Gutiérrez, a fisherman from Agaete, “Fine weather! Not again! You open the window each morning and what do you find? You can bet fine weather it will be! Clear blue skies once again!…Always the same! Why us? Why? The Sun is determined to stay in Gran Canaria 330 days a year. And refuses to leave. We live an endless summer, and it is all his fault!”

Juana del Pino, Mogán diving instructor, explained: “Please do not misunderstand me, the Sun prowling around here is good for my business. You know, divers love being in the water for hours on end. But hey, I must say this. The weather in Gran Canaria is fine practically all year long. January, March, October, December. And sometimes so much blue sky becomes a little repetitive. By the way, are you already familiar with the diving spots we have around the island? Ever tried diving?”

Umbrella manufacturers go bankrupt

Ildefonso Martínez, manager of the sector’s leading company, explained that “it is becoming harder and harder to sell umbrellas in Gran Canaria. We strongly protest against the constant good weather on the island. This is blatantly unfair! It only rains two weeks a year, and sometimes not even that. We’ve had enough with so much beach, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and God knows how many other surfings!!!”

The Sun has booked tickets for a new edition of Masdanza

Statement from King Sun himself: “In Gran Canaria, going to the beach is certainly not the only thing I do. No way! I dive, go mountain biking, and play golf. I do lots of things. I have even become a dance show aficionado. This month I will be on the front row to enjoy Masdanza, organized close to my hotel, in the heart of the tourist district. There will be workshops and classes. This is just great! More and more things to do on the island every year...”

Confirmed by reliable sources:
the Sun does not miss a single one of Gran Canaria’s traditional festivities.
“They are so much fun!”, the Sun was heard to say.

Exclusive statements made at the square:

Julio Santana, craftsman: “He attends La Fiesta del Rosario every single year. And he loves traditional pastries. Nougat, sweet-potato jam… he buys everything! Were it not for his visits to one of the island’s spas every once in a while – which I strongly recommend -, he would be round as a planet”.

Emiliana Rodríguez, nougat peddler: “The Sun himself was around here. He purchased a traditional island costume at the store next to the market. Surely to blend in. The thing is, he sometimes attends the local festivity and the temperature rises in no time”.

María López, full-time grandmother: “I tell my grandchildren. When I go to the market every Sunday, chances are I will run into him. I’ve heard he has bought a house in Gran Canaria. He visits other places in Europe only from time to time, but my neighbour tells me he seems to be determined to live here more than eleven months a year. The Sun refuses to leave Gran Canaria”.

He is also expected to be at:

Fiesta de la Manzana (Apple Festivity) , in Valleseco

“For free? How could it be that they are giving away tickets to Palmitos Park for free?”

“For free? How could it be that they are giving away tickets to Palmitos Park for free?”

The Komodo Dragon and the orang-utans of the Zoo on the south of the island refuse to accept more subscribers to the GranCanaria.com tourist newsletter getting in for free. “We strongly protest! ”, said the spokesbird for the pelicans at a press conference. “How is it possible that they give away 4 tickets for free, no less than 4, now that the park has just been reopened?”.

Well, this is the way things go. Whatever the parrots, the suricates, and even the eagles might say, the GranCanaria.com newsletter *raffles once again this month 4 tickets to Palmitos Park (www.palmitospark.es).

No questions or answers. No sms required.
Just being one of our subscribers will get you in the raffle.
