In other places, September will mark the end of the summer season. Not in Gran Canaria. The days of gentle sun on the island reach out until October. And even November. And run through December. And the sun lasts till January. And February. And it's also here in March.
The sun has permanent residence in Gran Canaria, where the long, long summer never ends.
Ana, Dunia, Gonzalo, Jorge and Raúl still do not know that summer never ends in Gran Canaria. That music does not stop on the island with the end of September. Or that the desire to have fun never ceases here...
Day 01
A world of never-ending holidays
I still do not believe that the paperwork time at the office stayed back in our town, a couple of flight hours behind.
Today, we get to explore a city whose history dates back over 500 years. I am dying to know why Columbus was determined to leave his mark on the Miniature Continent. But this is just the beginning. A world of holidays awaits us...
Day 02
Hours of fun the whole year round
After a day of gentle sun and fun on the beach, we had no other choice but to go to bed. The sidewalk cafés become alive with music on an island of long nights. A bite of tapas awaited us, together with a nice open-air concert. We finally got to try the famous crumpled potatoes with mojo our cousin talked so much about, not to mention the sweet potato paste and cheese with honey...
Party time, pleasant weather... join us for fabulous nights out in Gran Canaria! The hours of fun never end here...
Day 03
A biosphere reserve where the sun never sets
Don't let them know at the office that I spend my entire holidays from music to bars... for this is not the purpose of my coming to Gran Canaria. The hotel receptionist mentioned charming towns on the island. The truth is we had a great time exploring a biosphere reserve of gentle sun. For Gran Canaria is not merely an island filled with beaches. It is also the small continent that hides a thousand different spots...
We awoke full of energy today. I know what I want, and will try that sport they call surfing for girls. Gonzalo and Raúl want to forget all about haste in a marine reservation. Dunia is dying to let herself be seen with a sailboard at Pozo Izquierdo, much like the great champions. The good thing is that, so the receptionist tells us, anything is possible in Gran Canaria...
It's 2 AM now, and Jorge, still feeling the adrenaline rush, tells us for the ninth time about the fashionable sailboard flight...
Day 05
An ocean-full of dunes where you can enjoy yourself
You will not believe it! An ocean-full of dunes awaited us by the Maspalomas lighthouse.
Gonzalo and I (finally hand in hand!) walked over the dunes, bathed in the gentle Maspalomas sea, reached the impressive lighthouse, and checked out the lively Meloneras sidewalk cafés. Even when we are one hour behind here, time flies on a holiday island...
Día 06
Holidays do not come to an end in September
Our last day in Gran Canaria was quite exciting. We saw pelicans, toucans, and even Komodo dragons at Palmitos Park. Later, much in the style of old sea wolves, we set sail to see the dolphins. Dunia seemed like a little girl taking thousands of photographs with her new digital camera. In the evening, we sat at some sidewalk café at Puerto de Mogán. We sent a photograph to Olga (she loves dolphins), who stays home preparing her wedding. We thought of buying her a trip to Gran Canaria for her honeymoon. Although she is getting married in winter, the gentle sun and the fun never leave Gran Canaria...
