The Canary Islands musician, José Antonio Ramos, gave two open air concerts within the framework of the Regent Street fair, on 13th and 14th June in the exclusive pedestrian restaurant street, Heddon Street, in London. The timple player’s performance was one of the main acts in the cultural events promoting Canary Islands week in the “A taste of Spain” Festival. This event is organised by the Spanish Tourism Office in London in collaboration with the Regent Street Traders Association in order to promote Spanish destinations in the British capital.
He made the most of the occasion to put across Gran Canaria’s rich culture through its music and strengthened the Gran Canaria brand image among the public attending the event, including representatives from national and local press such as “The Times”, and representatives from some of the main British tour operators.
In the same way, during the two days of concerts, José Antonio Ramos’ music and references to Gran Canaria were mentioned several times on Capital Gold which is one of the most popular music radio stations in London, attracting over 230,000 listeners.
This promotion action also included setting up a Gran Canaria tourism information point in the middle of Heddon Street, which distributed vast amounts of promotional material on the island and encouraged the public to participate in an online competition via www.grancanaria.com/regent2007 , which had been designed especially for the fair. The Gran Canaria promotion competition was also promoted directly on the Regent Street Traders’ Association website www.regentstreetonline.com which has more than 100,000 single users every month, with a high spending user profile.
