Follow these instructions to have a truly exciting Saturday:
1. Make sure it’s a Saturday, of course …
2. Plunge into Las Canteras, the mile-long beach on the island’s capital, a long stretch of sand that fills the streets of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with surfers, beachgoers, sun-worshippers, and a myriad of other types of fun lovers.

3. Bring your swimming attire (or else leave it behind, for you are in Gran Canaria, and you can come as you like).
4. Let your children jump 479 times on the inflatable castles at the Plaza de la Luz square. And then another 479 times more on the trampolines next to the Auditorium, at the end of the beach.
5. Life is not just jumping. There is a handicraft market at the Plaza de Saulo Torón square that is open practically all day. The seaside promenade, among cafés, ice-cream parlours, and street musicians is yet another Saturday attraction.

6. Sports enthusiasts cannot get bored in Las Canteras (such a thing has never been experienced to date...). Beach volleyball tournaments are organized for them near Club Victoria.
7. There is also room for dancing lovers. Rockers meet in the evening at the promenade not far from the Peña la Vieja area. Jazz is alive and strong at Plazoleta Farray or near La Puntilla. At sunset, locals gather to dance by the cafés at Plaza del Pilar, the hub of the Guanarteme beach neighbourhood. Large families to Robinson-Crusoe-looking surfers, all moving their bodies to the same tune.
8. The final ingredient to end this truly exciting Saturday is to let yourself flow with the great mood floating over the beach. You only live once. So focus on spending a great time, and get to know the Playa Viva Saturdays organized by the town hall of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Las Canteras.
