The excellent quality of the island's hotels, the transport network and the conference centres with their outstanding architectural designs, together with the island's highly developed services, infrastructures and telecommunications, make Gran Canaria an excellent venue for the hosting of conferences, seminars, symposia, product presentations and conventions.
It is not surprising, therefore, that this sector of the island has been growing at such a tremendous rate, the annual growth rate exceeding 15%. Apart from these specific elements of congress tourism that the island has to offer, there is also the added incentive of being able to hold one's work functions in the best climate in Europe, while being able to enjoy a broad range of leisure activities and restaurant services.
There are three modern congress centres on the island: The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, with its outstanding architectural design by Oscar Tusquets, where one can contemplate the Atlantic Ocean while enjoying a scientific, cultural or social event; the Palacio de Congresos Gran Canaria (Convention Centre), which is located in the Infecar exhibition site; and the Palacio de Congresos de Maspalomas, which is situated in the South of the island in the heart of the new tourist complex of Meloneras.
In addition to these centres, which of themselves constitute a compelling reason to choose Gran Canaria when planning all types of congresses, conferences and seminars, there are about a hundred other conference halls in hotels located both in the tourist areas and in the capital, with capacities of up to 500 people each. Furthermore, the hotels of Gran Canaria are characterized by their high ratings, since most of them fall within the four-star and four-star plus ratings.
The island, with its diversity of landscapes, also boasts unique enclaves for the planning of very different and special incentive trips. In Gran Canaria, the organisers of events can let their imaginations run completely wild, as the whole environment plays along in this small continent, helping organisers to design the best programmes for their clients.
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a great investment effort is currently underway with the aim of placing the city on the cutting edge in terms of congress facilities. Gran Canaria Convention Bureau was constituted for the purposes of promoting these types of events, this body being the product of the joint efforts of the local public sector and the companies and bodies that operate in the tourist sector.
