Atlantic Rally for Cruisers 2013
The greatest transoceanic regatta in the world

Every year, as we reach the end of the regatta season in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, hundreds of boats prepare to face the long trans-oceanic crossing that will take them to the Caribbean.

Every November now for 27 years, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), the longest trans-oceanic regatta in the world, has brought over 200 international boats and crews to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, to take part in the incredible experience of them all crossing the Atlantic together. The ARC regatta offers fun, safety and reliability, especially to those who are taking on this long crossing for the first time.

This well known event has undoubtedly brought together many intrepid sailors from all over the world, along with their families and friends, who aspire to cross the Atlantic and make it to the island of Sta. Lucia in the Caribbean, in an average time of 18 to 21 days, depending on the type of vessel they are travelling in.

The yachts start coming into Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from the beginning of Novembre, and from the moment they arrive, they have a programme of events and activities laid on for their enjoyment until the day they set off.

This year, due to massive demand on the part of crews to participate in the regatta, the organization has included an extra start which will take place before the traditional ARC race and which has been named as the ARC+. Its start is set for 10th November. On this day, we will have the chance to watch nearly 50 of the fastest boats in the competition set off from the sports marina at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Then two weeks later, on Sunday 24th of November, the nearly 250 other boats will set sail from the same sports marina in the traditional ARC regatta, with the best spot to catch this superb spectacle being the Avenida Marítima in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria and its capital city will be dressed up to the nines for the occasion.
