The Institution

The Tourist Board of Gran Canaria is an autonomous public institution dependent on the Gran Canaria Island Government, and whose ultimate objective is to guarantee both the development and management of the tourist industry on the island of Gran Canaria.

The Tourist Board was formed with a view to guarding the interests of an increasingly important activity, endeavouring at all times to cooperate and take part in acts which give the Island of Gran Canaria the relevance it deserves as a privileged place to spend an incomparable holiday.

The Tourist Board of Gran Canaria currently reflects the commitment to preserve this island as a first-class tourist destination offering top quality services. As such, it directs, plans and develops policies which are receptive to market requirements.

These objectives can be defined as follows: promoting Gran Canaria overseas, and supporting local initiatives to improve and manage the island's tourist spots. In order to achieve this, the cooperation of the business sector is sought as well as taking advantage of the synergies produced by coordinating actions of the various insular, regional and national government departments.

Our overseas promotion takes the form of advertising campaigns in the markets of origin as well as taking part in trade fairs and tourist events of potential interest to Gran Canaria.

We are also committed to the development of the varying kinds of tourism on the Island such as golf, health, congresses and incentives, etc. with the aim of diversifying as much as possible what Gran Canaria has to offer. This offer has traditionally been focussed on the sun and beach segment and is the key attraction of this Island.

The Tourist Board has also taken part in various projects to improve tourist facilities on the island (Plans of Excellence, Quality, Infrastructure and Tourist Information Services), in direct coordination with the institutions involved.

Finally, the Tourist Board is responsible for managing all the administrative records of the various tourist establishments on the Island, enabling us not only to know at all times the actual situation of this sector but also to be in direct contact with it.
