Puerto de Las Nieves and the beach, in Agaete

Beaches of Agaete in Gran Canaria: A Sea of Blue and Stillness

The natural pools and sun-drenched beaches of Agaete satisfy the spirit of the sea, as the poet Saulo Torón wrote.

The sea opens its blue eyes at the mouth of the Agaete ravine. Here, in the natural pools of Las Salinas, life becomes bright and transparent. Even the passage of time itself seems to slow down when we immerse ourselves in this setting, carved by the waves upon the volcanic rock in a joyful encounter between elements as different as water and fire. From the struggle between the two, harmony and beauty finally emerged.

Gran Canaria, an Island Without a Script

There is an island, Gran Canaria, where sometimes the best stories are the ones you never planned.

Holidays are often imagined as a series of perfect days, carefully planned, where everything unfolds without a hitch. However, the true magic of travel does not lie in perfection, but in quite the opposite, in imperfect moments, those unexpected instances that transform the experience into something deeply human, memorable and authentic.

Moby Dick never left Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The iconic film by John Huston, based on the novel by Herman Melville, was shot in the island’s capital 70 years ago.

When Herman Melville was writing Moby Dick, one of the great novels in the history of literature, he left clues about the white sperm whale that gave the book its title throughout the work. However, it would not be until a hundred years after it was written, between 1954 and 1955, that this literary creation, first published in 1851, would take on the image recognised today by all film lovers. This is the version seen in the film directed by John Huston and starring Gregory Peck in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This is where much of the filming took place, particularly the scenes featuring the great white whale that so obsessed Captain Ahab.
