Wine Route
Winemaking treasures shaped by volcanoes and tradition
The Wine Route invites visitors to explore the landscapes and ways of life at the heart of the island, offering a unique wine tourism experience that allows them to savour the wines of Gran Canaria while discovering part of its history in a spectacular natural setting, home to its wineries, vineyards and crops.
With more than forty different varieties, the distinctive landscape and climate of Gran Canaria have blessed the island with an extraordinary wine heritage, whose evocative names such as Listán Negro, Marmajuelo, Breval, Moscatel de Alejandría and Malvasía Volcánica are already part of a unique winemaking legacy in the world.
A different way to discover Gran Canaria through its excellent wines, with more than 50 establishments including wineries, restaurants, wine bars, estates, accommodation, cheesemakers, guides and tour operators, not forgetting the bochinches, small family run venues where wine pairs perfectly with traditional Canarian food.
Because every sip of wine from Gran Canaria is like drinking the sun, the ravines and the volcanoes, where nature and culture come together. A journey to our origins and our history, now ready to be enjoyed by lovers of fine wine.
Discover wines unlike any other in the world
The wines of Gran Canaria are unique. The legacy of an island past whose winemaking excellence has given rise to wines full of identity and tradition, and of course with exceptional flavour and nuance.
Gran Canaria is home to more than 25 local varieties recognised under the DO Gran Canaria designation, varieties whose purity and longevity are unique in the world.
A singular character shaped by outstanding environmental conditions, where the volcanic nature of wines made from grapes grown on steep slopes and volcanic soils is clearly expressed, influenced by the trade winds, the sea and the land.
The Asociación Española de Ciudades del Vino (Spanish Association of Wine Cities, Acevin) recognises this distinctive winemaking heritage with the certification of the Ruta del Vino de Gran Canaria, the only one of its kind in the Canary Islands and outside mainland Spain.
Wine Route of Gran Canaria
The Wine Route of Gran Canaria is a wine tourism initiative that promotes viticulture and wine tourism on the island, allowing visitors to enjoy its local wines and traditional cuisine. It is the island’s only official route and one of the fastest growing in terms of visitor numbers among those included in the Wine Routes of Spain, according to the latest annual report on visits to wineries and museums prepared by the Asociación Española de Ciudades del Vino (Acevin).
