Degollada Becerra Viewpoint: A Grand Window onto a Unique Landscape in Gran Canaria
The Degollada Becerra Visitor Centre Opens Its Doors to the Public.
Situated within the Biosphere Reserve near the Degollada de Becerra Viewpoint, this Visitor Centre invites you to embark on a unique journey through the island’s geological history, while enjoying one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the Tejeda basin. This privileged location offers breathtaking views of two majestic volcanic monoliths, known as the “Guardians and Children of the Volcano”: Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga.

From this viewpoint, visitors can gaze across mountains formed millions of years ago—home to traditions, species, and habitats that have withstood the passage of time. The views you capture here will be etched in your memory forever.

Another major draw of the viewpoint—located in the heart of the island, on the border between the municipalities of Vega de San Mateo and Tejeda— is its incredible night sky. Gran Canaria has been recognised by UNESCO, through the Starlight Foundation, one of the world’s best places for stargazing.

The Degollada de Becerra Visitor Centre is designed to provide information about the local biodiversity while delighting visitors with its magnificent views. Thanks to informative panels and audiovisual displays, the public can gain an in-depth understanding of Gran Canaria’s geological history and discover the traditional ways of life that still endure today.

Additionally, the Visitor Centre offers accommodation for one night’s stay: a hostel with five shared rooms and a total capacity of 16 people with a profile of hikers, stargazers, and researchers. Bookings can be made directly through the centre’s website. To further enrich the visit, the facility includes a multifunctional room. This newly opened resource also aims to engage with the local community by fostering collaboration with residents, cultural and social organisations, and supporting local development in the area.
