A Fresh Perspective on Playa del Inglés and the Maspalomas Dunes in Gran Canaria

The new viewpoint, surrounded by numerous native plants, has become a fresh attraction in the tourist area of Gran Canaria.

The view of Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas is one of Gran Canaria’s most iconic tourist and scenic landmarks. When arriving from the airport or the island’s capital, there comes a moment when you encounter one of those unforgettable landscapes—remarkable for its beauty, its sheer scale, and the sight of dunes that flow into a golden shoreline stretching as far as the eye can see. As Néstor Álamo’s song Maspalomas y tú says, “Down there in the South, asleep under the sun, there’s a beach,” with golden sand and a dazzling ocean—whether viewed from the shore or afar. The recently inaugurated viewpoint, accessible from the Veril area between the Anexo II Shopping Centre and the Costa Canaria Promenade, provides just such a vision: calm, peaceful, and with the perfect perspective of one of the most beautiful coastlines on the planet.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival, Las Canteras beach

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival is ringing in our ears

The 2017 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival kicks off on 10th February with the slogan ‘Eternal Spring’.

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival will be hitting the streets between 10th February and 5th March 2017. But let’s be serious for a moment. Carnival lovers, both male and female, take little notice of dates on a calendar. The people who breathe life into this fiesta actually start thinking of next year’s disguise as soon as they wipe the make-up off their faces and take off their wigs this year. The carnival has a programme, but it is really all about a sentiment, a huge wave that everyone is invited to dive into. Fancy taking the plunge?

The sweetest story in Gran Canaria

The baking business featuring the almond in Gran Canaria reveals a whole host of tales from its ovens.

This story is laced with honey, almonds, sugar and cinnamon. The tale comes to us from the sweet, chirpy tones of Rosa María Medina, something quite normal in someone who spends day after day making sweet delights at the Dulcería Nublo de Tejeda, an establilshment she runs with her husband, José Antonio Quintana. Any culinary route linked to the almond in Gran Canaria should include a visit to this historical business premises.
