1st September in Gran Canaria is Culture and Basketball Day.

As part of the celebratory agenda of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Spain 2014, the Department of Presidency, Culture and New Technologies at the Cabildo de Gran Canaria Island Government is laying on a wide range of parallel activities at several of the main cultural venues around the island.

Included in all these parallel activities are an extensive programme of events which aim to highlight the cultural identities of Korea, Australia, Mexico, Angola, Slovenia and Lithuania, the six competing countries in Gran Canaria. There are a multitude of activities being held on 1st September, including films, food tasting, concerts and conferences, at different centres around Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, giving people the chance to see for themselves the diverse cultural identities of all these countries.
