Banana Museum

The Banana Museum of Gran Canaria is a cultural centre dedicated to the history and influence of banana cultivation on the island. It is located in the municipality of Arucas, within the grounds of the Hacienda La Rekompensa. This place consists of a recently restored traditional Canarian house, a museum and visitors centre, a shop selling local products, and several rooms where you can stay, surrounded by 7,000 banana plants that guide the view to the sea.

The northern coast of Gran Canaria has historically been dotted with numerous banana plantations from Arucas to Gáldar. This crop gives rise to one of the most authentic flavours of our islands: the Canarian banana. The abundance of water and fertile land in this area led to the establishment of many agricultural enterprises, just as had happened in past centuries with sugar cane. Currently, the Canarian banana still plays a significant role in the island’s primary sector, particularly in the municipalities of the northern coast.

Several areas of this estate are open to the public through guided tours. Additionally, its more than 56,000 square meters offer venues for events of all types, with a capacity for 1,300 people outdoors and up to 900 under a tent. Find all the information here.
